Apple Spice Scones with Vanilla Glaze

Of all the scones I’ve ever made, this is hands down my favorite recipe. If apples and cinnamon are your thing too, then this recipe just might be one you’ll make again and again!

Makes 18-20 scones

Here’s what you’ll need:

For the scones:

  • 3-4 medium Gala apples or other baking varieties

  • 3 cups all purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp. baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp. allspice

  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon

  • pinch of salt

  • 1/2 cup of salted butter

  • 3/4 cup of cream

For the vanilla glaze:

  • 3 tbsp. melted salted butter

  • 1 cup confectioner’s sugar

  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

  • 2-3 tbsp. milk

  • Sprinkles (if desired)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Peel and chop apples, set aside.

  3. Measure flour, granulated sugar, nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, baking powder and salt into a bowl and whisk together.

  4. Cut butter into small 1/2 inch cubes and add to flour mixture.

  5. Use a pastry cutter or fork to cut butter into the dry ingredients until you have small pea-sized crumbs.

  6. Incorporate the chopped apples and toss gently with a wooden spoon.

  7. Create a well in the center of batter and add cream. With hands, gently knead mixture to combine all ingredients.

  8. Scoop 1/4 cup mounds of dough onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, spacing each scone 2 inches apart.

  9. Bake scones for 18-22 minutes until tops and edges are golden brown.

  10. Cool scones on a wire rack.

  11. Prepare glaze in a medium bowl by mixing together the melted butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of milk. Whisk until smooth. For a thinner glaze, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency.

  12. Dip top of scones into glaze and enjoy!
