How Sheep River Home Goods Came To Be…

My grandmother inspired me in so many ways, and as I look back, I realize that she’s a big part of this new beginning for me. I remember how she was always busy knitting, sewing, baking bread, tending her garden… and she loved doing it all. She created so many wonderful things every day. During winter, there were always tons of wool slippers and socks for the whole family to wear. In the summer, she’d lay out cool, cotton quilts for everyone to enjoy. What she did was art. It was beautiful and had a purpose. When she figured out patterns for her patchwork quilts, she didn’t stop herself from being creative with the colors she chose. She went along with whatever caught her eye, without worrying about what others might think of her work. And boy did she accomplish a lot in a day!

She taught me how to sew, how to knit and how to cook. For many years I had these ideas, these things that I wanted to make. And when we moved out to the foothills of Alberta, the beauty of this land inspired me furthermore and I began to create… I’m very passionate about caring for life — we humans, animals, plants and of course the home we share. That’s why I try my best to find natural materials that are either organic or grown in a sustainable manner. The costs might be a little higher but it’s worth the investment. Linen, for example, is a natural fibre from the flax plant, and the best things about it, is that it’s very durable, but also easily biodegradable. I love the way it looks and feels, it has a rustic though elegant appearance and brings warmth to every room. May it be kitchen linens or beautiful pillows in your living room, linen is versatile and lasts for years. I have become an advocate for sustainable living and I realize that it’s not as hard as one might think with the multiple options that are now available to us.

I love my family and my home and I l ike to keep things simple and clean! Sheep River Home Goods is a reflection of that and my wish is to provide home goods that will be sustainable and of course, that will bring joy to your everyday!

Like my grandmother, I am very keen on all things that have to do with the life that happens in our homes… so, I guess this first blog is an introduction to my projects, to who I am and my journey along the way.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a few moments to get to know me better!
